The Macular Degeneration Seminar, hosted by MapleCrest Care Centre and Northwoods Care Centre, Belvidere, IL, was held today (October 27, 2011) at the Boone County Council on Aging. The seminar drew a full house, consisting of 72 participants. The introductory speaker was Dr. Jon Russell [Optometrist] from the Center for Sight and Hearing, and accompanied by Barbara Schlomann, Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, also at the Center for Sight and Hearing in Rockford, IL. Dr. Russell spoke briefly about the Center for Sight and Hearing and what the center can provide for those with any type of vision impairment. Following Dr. Russell's remarks, our keynote speaker, Sharon Thomas, RN, Clinical Nurse Liaison, MapleCrest and Northwoods Care Centres, presented a power-point presentation on Macular Degeneration, which is a leading cause of vision impairment.
